Unacceptably slow freezing time on a very fast PC

Post by bigbing » Mon Nov 13, 2023 11:34 am

So whenever I try to freeze a track it takes a long time, way longer than any other DAW I use. Doesn't matter if it's the start of the project with 1 track and a stock synth (or a high CPU, performance draining synth) or the middle of the project with a lot of tracks/FX processing.

My PC specs:

- CPU: Intel Core i9-12900KF
- RAM: 32GB DDR5
- GPU: RTX 3070ti
- Storage: Multiple Samsung EVO 970 SSDs (Ableton is installed on the SSD, so are the plugins)

Here's a short video depicting the issue. I think this is unacceptable. REAPER renders complex PhasePlant patches with a lot of additional FX processing in 1 second or less (and that's with a bunch of other CPU heavy tracks in the project), so compared to Ableton this is just laughable.

Anyone else also encountered this? Is there any fix for it?

bump? I can't believe that it's a normal behaviour, it must be a bug, right?

Same problem here...

One clip in a track with one VST take 10 minutes ton freeze.

Anyone have an idea ?

Experiencing the same problem.
Must be a bug in one of the more recent updates? It definitely never use to be like this.
A track that would typically take less than 5 seconds to freeze took over a half hour to freeze. (Only know because I just left it open out of curiosity so I knew if it had just completely frozen or was actually still processing.)

Yeah its a tad slower in processing audio with 12. Hopefully it gets addressed in the next release, or beta.

I know this is almost a year old, but I never gave my own solution to this same problem.
Maybe someone else will stumble on this and make the same mistake I did.

I'm sure you're not as stupid as I am, but turns out it was my fault freezing was taking so long.
Around the same time, I added a new plugin to my default track. It was very lightweight online, but I didn't realise I had it set to crazy high oversampling when processing offline.

I'm seeing this issue. I haven't added any new odd plugins to project. Did you manage to resolve it?

Do you mean you had that plugin unintentionally loaded into the current project or just having it newly installed was an issue?
I have same problem but slow on any old plugins too.
Need to fix this asap.
