is my push 2 touch strip faulty?

hello folks,

i bought my ableton push 2 about four years ago. back then, i was new to music production and barely used it, maybe two or three times, before putting it away. now that i've grown as a musician, i decided to start using it again, and i realize now how great of a product it is.

but there's a problem, thi clearly remember that when i first used it, the touch strip responded smoothly, and the white dots moved in the direction of my finger. now, when i try to use it, the touch strip doesn’t respond unless i press very hard, and even then, the movement is limited.

i’m not sure if this is a bug, a software/firmware issue, or if the push 2 itself has a problem. it's out of warranty, so i can’t send it for repair, but i have experience with electronics. if this is a hardware issue, is it repairable? what could have caused this if the unit was barely used?

i was hoping to use the touch strip for pitch bends on my synth notes to add more expression, so any advice on how to ifx this would really mean alot .

update: hey guys, i noticed somethingMif i touch the strip with a very large surface of my finger, it kind of moves, but it still feels too clunky. i’m not sure if it’s supposed to work this way, but it doesn’t feel natural for pitch bending AND I AHVE TO PRESS VERY HARD IN A WAY TO MAKE IT MOVE.

I have the same issue with mine, only when I place my finger really flat on the touch strip (large surface contact) will it respond but as soon as I slightly lift my finger or kinda angle it, it loses connection and goes back to it's default position.

Thanks for sharing. Is that the expected behavior, or do you think we might have faulty units? If this is normal, then the touch strip feels pretty useless for pitch gliding or even adding expression to instruments.

By the way, has it behaved like that since you bought it, or did it change over time? Also, did you get a new unit like I did, or was it second-hand?

To be honest I don't know if the touch strip behavior is like this by design or not but you're right, as is it's pretty useless (the touch strips on my m32 keyboard are far more responsive). My Push 2 unit was 6 months old when I bought it (the seller sold it to fund the just announced Push 3) and it was in such a mint condition that I have no reason to assume there's any damage to the unit. I just kinda accepted it as is because I don't really use that functionality all that much but since you raised the issue I'm kinda curious to see if others have a similar experience or could chip in their thoughts.

The touch strip on the Push 1 & 2 are hands down the worst aspect of these devices to the point where I NEVER used them. I was really disappointed to see that they kept it for the Push 3 but when I finally bit the bullet and bought the P3 I was surprised and happy to find that they'd massively improved the sensitivity and functionality of the touchstrip.

It's actually useable now.
