Modulating parameters with more than one modulation device

Post by BasOphof » Thu Feb 27, 2025 9:13 pm

Hey guys!

I'm in the progress of mapping Zwobot to my Ableton Live set, and I'm running into a problem.
I have two FX Chains, and I want both chains (via envelope modding) to modulate a device group.
I can only map one FX chain to the device group, and can't seem to find a way to map both.
In other cases I would have just copied the device group and mapped that to the second FX chain, but the effects in the device group are way too CPU heavy to do that.
The closest I got was via https://zwobot.gumroad.com/l/fourinone , but you still have to select one of the four mod sources to work.

Is there a M4L device live this that just lets you split a mapped parameters to multiple mappable modulation sources?

Thanks in forwards!

Not sure if I totally understand what you are looking for, but if you are looking for a way to have two sources of modulation for one (up to 8) parameters, then I have a free device called Modulation Math that does that.

https://plugins.steinkamp.us/m4l-Modulation-Math

It has two dials that serve as input, and you choose an arithmetic operation (+, -, /, *) to operate on the values from the two dials. It has the normal destination assignment for what it will modulate.

Here's a short video on an old version (when it was called Automation Math)

Longer and more recent video where I'm discussing my modulation devices with my daughter :) Modulation Math starts at 5:49

All of these are free. You can just download them and use them.

Did you check the "CV Utility" device from the CV Tools pack (this one isn't strictly CV related)?

@zsteinkamp:
Great devices you've created there. I will try them out. Thanks for sharing!

Had no idea this is possible with CV Utility! When CV Tools came out I only half paid attention because I'm not a modular person.

Fair enough!
