Routing Multiple Instruments to VST Sequencer

Post by yoyesiku » Sun Mar 30, 2025 9:02 pm

Just recently started using Ableton Live 12 Lite due to buggy MPE support in Studio One. I use HY-RPE2 sequencer often and I'm trying to figure out how to get multi-instrument routing working in Ableton. In Studio One, the tracking routing has 16 channels available for in/out. For each instrument, I can select HY-RPE2 as the input and choose 1 of 16 channels. In HY-RPE2, I can set each one of the 8 tracks to a specific channel corresponding to one of the instruments. This way, with a single instance of HY-RPE2, I can control 8 tracks/instruments rather than having to have a separate instance of HY-RPE2 for each instrument. I've checked the manual and don't see any similar function in Ableton Live 12 Lite. It may be that it's in one of the other editions of Ableton Live; if that's the case, it would be good to know before purchasing a paid license.
Alternatively, if Ableton doesn't have this functionality, does anyone have any suggestions for a workaround?
Thanks.

This should also be possible with Ableton.

Idea:

Track 1 contains the sequencer.

Track 2 contains a drum kit, for example. Track 1 is selected as the input here. Any channel as midi channel.
Track 3 contains a piano, for example. Here as well track 1 is selected as the input. Again, any Midi channel possible.

I would be surprised if it doesn't work with the Lite version.

There are work arounds using max for live but Live can’t do that natively unfortunately. If you search on maxforlive.com for multi vst there should be a few things pop up. Alternatively you can run the sequencer standalone if that’s possible and send the midi to Live that way.
