Motu ultralight inputs not registering. *Solved*

Post by tkarmakid » Thu Apr 17, 2025 10:26 pm

I am having trouble getting the inputs to register when recording instruments with a Motu ultralight mk4.
The mk4 has two mic inputs on the front named 1 and 2. I am trying to record a bass guitar on one input and some drums throught a mixer on the other as mono inputs. I can see on the virtual console window and on the mk4 display that my instruments are being picked up on the level meters for their respective channels. But for some reason live will not pick them up correctly. Best I can do is get mic input 1 to register sound, and for some reason Live will pick it up whether it's set to 1 or 2. But if I move the instrument over to mic 2 input on the mk4 I get nothing on Live, yet they still register correctly on the mk4 and the virtual console for the mk4.
I have tried configuring the inputs several different ways: as mono inputs 1 & 2; stereo inputs 1/2; combination of both, each separately.
I just want to record two (or more, the mk4 should have plenty of inputs) different instruments separately to their own tracks.
Anyone have any ideas?

Are you on a Mac by any chance? There is a known “feature" in recent versions of Mac OS that can cause this.

No, I'm on windows.

But, I was able to resolve the issue by doing a factory reset. The volume knobs for mic 1 and 2 are also buttons. If you press the mic 2 knob it allows you to get into settings and from there you can do a factory reset. I suspect I might have messed with something on the virtual console matrix, which I admit, I don't understand. The ultralight gets pretty deep. I'm sure it was user error. Glad it's fixed.
Thanks for the reply! :D
