Struggling to get recording audio to work

Been searching a solution for an hour on this - I might be being really dumb.

I can see audio coming in through the input on the track - I can hear it when I monitor. The track is armed and I'm pressing the right record button. I've checked the drivers and that the audio settings are all good. Audio levels look fine. The audio is just not recording down.

I tried adding samples and that's all fine I just can't get why if I can hear the audio and it's armed it's just not saving down.

Admittedly new to ableton so feel free to berate my inability to google a solution - sure it's obvious.

Oh and I'm using a VOLT 267 and all the drivers and prefences on that all look fine too

Are you just starting to use Live for the first time?

It is not enough to arm the track, you also have to choose a clip to record into.
