Exported WAV files are very quiet

As the subject line says: exported files are much quieter then they sound in Ableton. I export WAV files, no normalization.

Weirder still: when I import the exported files back to Ableton, the waveforms look perfectly fine, full range, and play (in Ableton) as loud as supposed to.

I am sure I'm missing something very basic... Any thoughts appreciated!

Sounds like the exported WAV file is fine and the difference is in your media player or system audio mixer settings. Check this post.
