No sound from headphone socket only in Ableton.

New to this, very frustrating. A new MacBook Pro M4, newly purchased Ableton Live Standard, starting to learn with a few lessons, sound comes out of device speakers, plug in headphones, no sound in headphones and device speakers continue to sound, I need privacy (headphone only sound). I've had the MacBook checked the headphone port is working (but not in Ableton) I've followed Ableton's's advice to reset Live, still not working, can anybody help? Any advice or suggestions most welcome. I suppose it's my naivety in some sort of configuration of the output sound and the headphones but I can't work it out, I thought that it would be a simple plug in headphones and continue. Please help.

what are your audio settings in Ableton? Best to select "Use System"

Have you tried plugging in the headphones before you start Live?
