Noob needs clarification on audio clip usage

Post by stratblue » Thu Jul 03, 2025 10:47 am

I've been away from Live for a LONG time so back to being a bit of a newbie. I'm dropping samples into clips and looping them up but often I have a sample that's say 5 bars long and I have a space of 4 bars, I want the sample to play once before moving on. Unless I've misunderstood, the clip stops playing the sample after 4 bars and just cuts it off but what I want is to hear bar 5 like the R in ADSR as the next sample kicks off. It seems I can do this sort of thing with dummy clips, follow actions and automation etc but it all seems such a faff. The easiest way is just to use Simpler/Sampler, Drum Racks etc and trigger the sample from a midi clip. So my first question is am I right about this? If I am right my second question would be then concerning the point of audio clips, maybe if I had a perfectly chopped drum loop or something I might use them but not for much else. Why do you guys use an audio clip instead of Simpler/ Sampler? I must be missing something here.

Thanks. (12.2.1)
