Dummy clip gate: how to reset to initial values?

Post by spinlud » Thu Jul 17, 2025 5:41 pm

I am experimenting with dummy clips, what I would like to do is to assign a dummy clip with some parameters envelopes in it to a midi controller button. As long as the button is pressed the clip should play the envelopes, when it is released it should reset to the initial values. I can't find a way to do the last part. I have set the clip launch mode to "Gate" and quantization to "None", so when I press the button it instantly starts the envelopes but when I release the button it doesn't reset the parameters to the initial value. I saw someone using another clip for reset combined with the follow action, but unfortunately follow action needs a predefined amount of time to trigger and in this case it is dynamic (when button is released).

Does anyone have a solution to this? 🙃

I use my MaxforLive device Follow Clip XL to do this, it has a follow action option that fires when the current clip has stopped, i don't know of a way to do it natively which is why i built it many moons ago.
