Sure it's possible not to update - but those updates often contain security fixes.

most security updates seem to secure aggravation for more users no matter what the platform

...and for completeness' sake: Updated to Live 12 Suite, run the update to macOS 14.8.1 a week later, lost again an authorization. So the problem exists in Live 12 as well.
