Capture Midi still changes unintentionally the Song Tempo

Post by Stefan Jantschek » Tue Oct 21, 2025 8:00 am

Manual:
"If playback is not running and there are no existing clips in the set, Capture MIDI analyzes the average tempo of the captured MIDI and adjusts Live's tempo once the Capture MIDI button is pressed."

That does not work well.

The tempo of my whole set does randomly change after clicking midi capture, even though the arrangement is full of previously recorded midi clips.
I need to write the bpm in my Set Name as a workaround for easy detection.
And if playback is running or not should not mess up my Set timing.

I call this a bug and I think Midi Capture needs some rework.
But I would like to read your experiences in this case before I create (again) a bug report.

If it behaves like this without Playback being active, it is the expected behavior.

Might be better to put in a Feature Request for more capture ‘options’.

Really?
You expect that your complex arrangement changes from i.e. 130 to 89.50 bpm just because you
stopped playback before clicking on Capture Midi?
I do not expect that, honestly.
And to find back my original Tempo via Undo, I will loose my Midi Capture.

But that´s why I am asking your opinions here ;-)
