Novation Launchkey 37 Mark 3

Post by Felonius » Sun Oct 26, 2025 2:16 am

I have just taken ownership of one of the above, new, dated 02/23, unopened. Two questions arise;
A] Which version & flavour of Live is included;
b] Is the device not functional if I do not register the thing with Novation? Can I plug it is and work with any DAW?
Thank you.

If Live is included, it is included through the website when registering the Novation product. On the novation site they give you a lot of things, light versions, trials, and a few complete plugins that are pretty nice.

You can also download a controller editor from the site even without registering the product.

As for how it ‘works’ with other DAWs. There are a lot of cases where it just automatically has extra features that are useful for the daw that you’re using. And in most of those cases these days it practically works automatically without any tinkering.

Even if it doesn’t use those additional features, it should at least function as a standard midi controller, giving you a lot of control options.

A good resource for connecting and setting up your keyboard is the official YouTube channel.

Excellent, thanks very much. I currently have Ableton Live Lite 10.1.30. I would like Novation to work with that, and I am concerned that the registration process might try to download a later version. I may get a modern version later, but I want to work with 10 for a while on W7

Ohhhh. I forgot about that factor. Ideally the version of Live would be a version that was fully supported when the controller was released. There is a dropdown list in the MIDI settings under ‘Control Surfaces’, you could see if it is one or the devices on that long list.

You can still use the keyboard either way. It just may or may not have the extra convenience features active.

Registering the keyboard with the site simply allows you access to different downloads. If you do not want to update Live, just don’t download and install it. The editor is independent of Ableton Live, it is more specifically meant just to tweak the user presets on your keyboard. Usually the default stuff works fine. But it’s nice to load the editor still to see what functions your keyboard does have set up.

Very good! Thanks for all that. I'll get through it.

How are you doing and is this controller useful and fun for you with Ableton Live?
