Avoiding latency

On my previous computer I never had this problem but old reliable has shuffled off to digital afterlife.

Explain my application. I am trying to record my cover band in my home studio.
First I record the song we are recreating by the original artist from Spotify creating the project reference track.
Second the drummer puts down the drum track using only headphones to monitor.
Third the rest of the band, two guitars, bass, keys, up to four individual vocal tracks, record individually.
How do I avoid creating latency problems.
How do I correct latency problems if they occur.

Also I use a signature 12 mtk mixer. I have problems monitoring on headphones.
During playback I hear fine through the main out speakers also the aux one and two speakers.
I turn the power off to all four speakers when recording individual tracks.
I plug my headphones directly into the mixer and hear nothing during play back.
I connect the headphone Amp with a cord to a headphone Amp and hear nothing.
As a fix and since I am not using aux one and two speakers I plug headphones into aux one and add individual channels to aux one with t
he channel aux outs.
very low volume to phones. Connect aux one to headphone Amp still insufficient volume.
I believe this is called direct monitoring. Should result in no latency. But I am worried I will take up all the bands time laying down all these tracks and wind up with a bunch of latency affected unsynched tracks

Figured all my headphone monitoring probllems were related to the wrong type insert cable connecting mixer headphone out to headphone out
