In the end, what many companies actually often do with open source software, they commercially use it in their products (often free of charge) but give back little to none to the project/community. Or they just develop additional code which is proprietary though and for the company itself. Not saying this always is the case (there also are companies which contribute a lot) or that Ableton is doing that (I don't have a clue). Just pointing out the status quo.
Wow, what a compelling argument, so if Ableton releases any Linux version THEY WILL BE ACCUSED OF EXPLOITING THE LINUX COMMUNITY, sure they are rushing now they've read that.

And Ableton already gave a lot back, won't even bother listing it all, just the fact that people come here promising Ableton they will get recognition if they open-source or support Linux, yet those same people clearly don't recognize (much less praise) existing Ableton open-source and Linux efforts is so very telling.

?
Where did I write that?

I wrote "Not saying this always is the case (there also are companies which contribute a lot) or that Ableton is doing that (I don't have a clue)."

I wrote a rather general comment about what unfortunately often - that does not mean always nor done by Ableton in particular - happens with open source software. In no sentence I accused Ableton exploiting the Linux community.

peace and out

OK, sorry then, my bad.

I think Ableton + Linux is a long term project, like 10, 15 years, I would not expect much outside Push/Move (not tied to hardware) anytime soon.

Akai Force is a lot like Ableton Live, I have both, had a Push2. The Force is running Linux too, and is quit happy to do so.

It is also more enjoyable to work with hardware then with software imho.

I would be delighted to see a distro dediciated to music and DAW's. But I think it will only happen as soon as everyone abondons Windows, and that ain't gonna happen soon............
Akai Force, Soundcraft UI24R, ESI M4U eX, Reason 12, Live Suit 10, Presonus Eris E8 and Monitor Station V2, Akai MPK mini MK3, Korg N1, Yamaha RM1x & Behringer TD3MO and RD9

Some days ago Steinberg liberalized ASIO and VST to be freely implemented in software which is being used under open source license. Maybe also because of CLAP? :D
Anyway, great to see and thank you Steinberg :-)

Oh, and also just saw that, beside e.g. Reaper and Bitwig, Studio One offers a Linux (Beta) version since 6.5 as well.
So, there seems to be a little movement :-)

I'm in the same situation, Ableton and my other music software are the only reason I am using Windows, and being on Windows is becoming harder with each update.
