Just wanted to share a simple hack I came up with to make the encoders (knobs) on Push 2 stand out in my dimly lit studio.
I found it visually challenging to locate the encoders—being a bit older, the matte black knobs tend to disappear into the matte black surface of the Push 2.
So I added small coloured rubber bands around the base of each encoder to make them pop. The ones I used are called Loom Bands from CraftersChoice, found at Spotlight (a craft store here in Australia). They’re typically used for bead bracelets—but they fit perfectly around the knobs.
They were outrageously expensive: $6 for 900 bands. Lifetime supply, really.
I went with:
- White for the main 8 encoders
- Red for Master Volume
- Orange for Metronome
- Light Blue for Tempo
I love that the band thickness matches the Ableton logo stripes—it feels almost intentional.
You could go wild with it: stack them, colour-code by channel, or use them for macro mapping. Personal choice.
Would love to hear what you think!
Cheers,
Stuart Pavy
