Stem Separation and Future updates

Post by spanktron » Sun Nov 09, 2025 10:58 am

So i am trying the new features and am loving Live more and more. As if it started to catch up, not with others but with the times. At least
it`s how i see it. It somwhow now can do everything i want and then some.

That said, Stem Separation feature. The way i see it is a collaboration as it does not seem to be developed by Ableton.
So it is a bit theoretical but do you think that it will be constantly updated-refined with updates or will it stay a bit like
a „cheaper variant“ so you get a taste and then have to buy some upgrade?
I love that the mix of stems Nulls with the original mix but there are still a lot of things „jumping from one stem to the other“ so
if you push a stem these things will add up and make them unusable for more precise-„transparent“ work.

I am trying to estimate if lets sayy in one year the feature will get better or if i should look elsewhere cause i have the feeling that 3rd party solutions are evolving faster in this aspect.

I am talking only about the Stem Separation feature and i know its just speculating but would love your opinions

Assuming the company will want to stay competitive, especially with what is viewed by many as core DAW functionality, it will probably improve as the technology continues to evolve.

That being said, you can always switch to a VST or stand alone product at some point in the future.

Of course you can switch to other things. However i love Live tbh. With the new updates i love it even more. It`s a bit like me. Taking its sweet time and a bit behing schedule but if it happens it happens in the right way.
I have tried 3rd partry solutions. Cant say that i am very impressed. The differences are pretty minor in my ears.
But we are getting there!

I know tis a bit of an abstract question i made but i am always interested what others think

So thank you for chipping in

I've been using Logic for stem separation and am looking forward to the 12.3 release so I don't have to use a separate DAW for this.
