Auto load grooves causing erratic double triggering w/Push 3

Post by chimp_spanner » Wed Nov 19, 2025 12:22 pm

As in title, anyone else get this? I have my template set up with a pool of common quantisation from 8 through to 32 including Triplets, in a few variations; 100%, 60% (to keep some of my playing) and then some percentage randomised (to humanise mouse'd in notes).

With my MIDI keyboard, no issue. With the Push it just absolutely freaks out and plays a bunch of extra notes but they *aren't* recorded. The fix is easy I suppose; just turn auto load grooves off. But still seems kinda weird. Anyone else replicate this?

Is it always happening, or only in some situations?
EG, is it happening while recording, or also while juste playing?

Hey sorry didn't see you'd replied. So I've' been experimenting with this and it's basically 100% reproducible.

Record with no quantize and no auto load groove enabled = fine
Record with auto load groove enabled = weird double triggers (almost sounds like they're happening on the note off)
Record with no quantize/no groove (fine), then apply a groove later and overdub into the clip (auto load on or off) = same issue.

One of the mods over on the Ableton Discord suggested that the Quantize function of the groove was anticipating the correct note position but it doesn't happen with every note. Maybe like 25% of them. And it also doesn't happen if I play via my MIDI keyboard.

I'm getting this same issue with the new Ableton build, 12.3.5

If I have a clip loaded with a pre-set groove, and try to overdub into it, I get double-hits of every note that isn't EXACTLY on the pre-set quantize grid. It's super flammy. The older builds of Ableton didn't operate this way. Important info:

Record Quantization (Edit Menu) is OFF - Record quantization is HARD TO GRID, no feel at all, and is pretty undesirable for live performance.
Novation Mk3 37 key keyboard - I have used this for years with older builds of Ableton, overdubbing into clips with pre-set grooves, no issues. My incoming notes used to be passed through as-is (even with timing discrepancies) and were only quantized on the "playback" passes of the clip.

What I infer is that the new build of Ableton tries to quantize playing in realtime, but also passes through the notes as they were played, resulting in a double-note.

Once the clip is recorded, it sounds fine, no flams. But the realtime playing sounds awful because of all the double hits.

When are they going to fix this?
