I while ago I posted this exact question, but got sidetracked and now have to revisit this situation. I have an Akai S950 with tons samples on disks from my old analog days. I need to be able to use the sampler as a midi device so I can play back samples thru Abelton and record. I have aScarlett 414 interface and the correct midi cable set up. Can someone help me here?
Thx

Re: Abelton Live 11 connecting an Akai S50
AH realize it's Thanksgiving weekend so I would hope I see a reply by early this week. I found my last post about this here is the link
https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/artic ... 9960f8d32e
so I made some headway as I have a scarlett 414 interface a USB to midi cable all to sync the S950 to Abelton.
What I did:
plugged in the USB cable to the 950 opened in Abelton, it does NOT see the Akai BUT does the the midi USB cable. I had run the output of the sampler to the FRONT of the Scarlett USING A 1/4 JACK. I hope this is right because the rear of the Scarlett has midi in and out. See the screenshots plz.
AKAI MIDI IN / OUT CABLE TO USB
AKAI PLAYBACK TRIGGER 1/4 JACK TO SCARLETT 414
Now Abelton is sending / receiving midi but the Akai midi light is NOT flashing. Thats where I'm.
Any help from here? Almost there

Re: Abelton Live 11 connecting an Akai S50
To connect an Akai S950 to Ableton, you must use audio and MIDI cables since the S950 lacks a USB connection. First, connect the S950's audio outputs to an audio interface or mixer, and then connect its MIDI out to your computer's MIDI interface, or connect the MIDI out to your computer's MIDI in. Finally, set up MIDI and audio tracks in Ableton to route the S950's audio into your Ableton project.
Hardware connections
Audio: Connect the S950's audio outputs (left and right) to an audio interface's inputs
MIDI: To send MIDI from Ableton to the S950, connect a MIDI interface's MIDI OUT port to the S950's MIDI IN port.
