Hot swapping samples
Hot swapping samples
Hello,
I have a Push 3 controller.
I noticed that if you try to hot swap a sample within a drum rack (working with drum samplers or simplers), the browser doesn't go to the folder where is located the current sample, but only display the "all samples chaos".
Is it normal? It's very frustrating since it's a different (and cumbersome) behaviour than swapping directly from the computer.
I really wish it could be optimized in the near future.
What do you think? Am I missing a point?
Regards,
creal.
EDIT: in the Push 3 manual, it's written the following (chapter 6.4 Loading Individual Drums): In Hot-Swap Mode, the device category that the original sample is from will automatically be selected. For example, if you press a Drum Rack pad containing a kick sample, you will see the Kick category after pressing Swap. You can also tap on another pad within the Rack on the grid to select it instead, and the device category will be updated to match.

Re: Hot swapping samples
Your not missing anything. This is broken on Push but seems to work in the software. The issue happens if you load a drum rack and then try to hot swap one of the pads. If you load a sample directly to a pad before doing a hot swap then it will work...sometimes.
Best to report this to Ableton.

Re: Hot swapping samples
Yes, please submit a bug report. We need more people to bring this to Ableton's attention so they can fix the hot mess that is hot swapping on the Standalone Push. Drives me crazy too.

Thanks for your insights. Yes, we need a fix for that, it's really frustrating.
I will send a bug report once I can log in to my account (for the moment, when I submit the access code received by e-mail, it brings me back to the login page...).

Re: Hot swapping samples
I managed to send a bug report via Chrome, with a video attached. I hope this will be fixed.
I also experience another bug when hot swapping an instrument. Sometimes, it does not direct you to the original location of the instrument. But I still haven't figured out in which cases it happens. It seems random. I think this user tried to describe this problem: viewtopic.php?t=253065
Do you guys also experience this bug?

Re: Hot swapping samples
Ableton replied me. They are aware of this bug, which is already in their backlog.
I took this opportunity to ask them if they are aware of other inconsistencies in the navigation of the Push, which I can copy/paste here:
1) When you hot swap an .adg (or an .adv), it sometimes doesn't direct you to the original location of the .adg.
2) You can access categories (Bass, Pad, etc.) after clicking on an Ableton instrument (for example: Drift) if it is browsed through "Device\Collections", although it directly shows presets if browsing via "Device\Instruments"
3) Library elements accessible via Ableton Live sidebar are not reflected in the Push (which shows ALL the elements, included the ones hidden in the software)
4) In clip mode, for an audio track there is a "Press + to add an Audio Clip", but if we press +, it directs you to the normal "add menu" (Device, Clip, MIDI Track, Audio Track, Return Track) and we cannot browse audio samples (!)
5) We should be able to hot swap MIDI clips via Push when in clip mode, instead of pressing on the + button to "add" a clip (whereas it actually replaces the current one)
6) We should be able to add a MIDI/audio clip to an empty slot
7) Collections should be accessible at the root of the "add" menu. There are too many buttons to press to add the devices we love (= the ones that are part of our collections)
What do you think?
Unfortunately, I cannot submit those suggestions via Centercode because I'm not a member (and I don't want to be part of because I was one in the past, and it was too time-consuming).
Thanks for your feedback,
creal.

Re: Hot swapping samples
Don't worry most of your points either already have a Suggestion on Centercode, or are known issues.
