Very simple:

1 - I'd like to see Ableton actually encourage their customers to use the forum (I don't post much but I read a lot here, it's been really helpful). There is no link to it on the website any more, only a few old mentions in the knowledge base (feel free to point out to me if I'm wrong, I'd like to know). Some of my friends don't even know there's a forum. ("Need help? Browse the help section / Contact our support team" says my account page).

2 - I'd like the contents to be accessible via search engines - see https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3A ... bleton.com). 99.9% people search their problem first, and end up on reddit or facebook or youtube, but rarely here.

It seems like Ableton wished this place didn't exist, otherwise, why would they hide it away. A lively community is something they could be proud of, I would think?

And yeah, dark mode +1

Wow, I didn't realise they were blocking all search engines. That really shows what they think of all the user knowledge on here.

Step 1. Fix this robots.txt

That's weird, I've seen link to this forum's threads many times when searching from Google.
That might be a recent change since we've been dealing with very annoying bots... as you may have noticed.

I think phpbb does have a IP lookup system to authenticate the big bots , I guess a few exceptions to the block all rule for google bot, bing, OpenAI, etc. would work.
But it's ages since I ran a phpbb , I actually used to have a company which provided phpbb services to record companies. Can you believe that was actually a profitable business in about 2004 ! 😆

Hey Steve, thx for the tip.
That's basically what we're doing, but that comes with some drawbacks and still needs (recurrent) manual control.

We’re currently brainstorming on the future of this lovely 20+ years old forum.
We have plans, ideas and are aware of what’s been requested over time, but we’d love to have a fresh perspective on your wishes...
Hi!,
I chime in my two cents

- Dark style as an option
- Better and modern interface
- Embed images, videos, audio clips
- More active users! (more promotion)
- Better search function, more precise

and SPECIALLY, a good solid and stable functioning, as fast and sharp like Discord, Reddit or X.

Slow page load is very frustrating.

Faster would be nice.

Much. Faster.

The painfully slow page load is still better than waiting for answers from Ableton tech support of course, but even so.

Painful.

Yeah, taking 40 to 70 seconds to load a page is crazy. And this for each page. That's if you don't get a "This site can’t be reached".
I tried several browsers on different computers, but they are all slow.
The strange part is that sometimes the performance is fast. Instant page loading, as one would expect.

Site loading time is inexcusable, it should have been fixed by now.

After weeks of not being able to reach this forum it finally comes up. I really get the feeling the powers that be want to phase this forum out. I’m certainly loosing interest. I wrote support about it and they asked for a screen shot. I said to myself…that’s stupid. What kind of screen shot is needed on a site that is down? I’m in the US. Maybe others don’t have the problem.

Was it actually down? Most of the time, pages load very slowly, taking over a minute per page. So, you might think it's down, but it’s just incredibly slow. However, it's reasonable to assume that most people don't wait that long and think the site is down.
Happens here in Europe, too, by the way. Today, the site is working fine/fast.

Yeah, it would work as expected for a moment, and then bots come back...
Well, at least ChatGPT should now be very efficient with answering Live-related questions
