Crashes/Windows Reboot on Live 12

Post by DerGeist » Wed Feb 11, 2026 6:54 pm

Hi all

I have recently updated from Live 10 to 12 motivated by the comping feature. The new features seem great, when I can use them, but am having some rather severe crash problems. When I start live i get the spinning blue "i'm thinking" circle. If I am lucky, don't touch anything, and the stars align, live will load. About 50% of the time it freezes immediatly. The rest of the time it will load but will usually freeze a few minutes in. If I change to another app or do anything other than very carefully click around ableton it will crash. In all cases, it not only crashes but also takes windows with it. I get a too fast to read windows message but it definitley inlcudes the word KERNEL. This led me to think it was a hardware issue but:

- Live10 works great with the same project and no new hardware or plugins
- CPU and and RAM usage is low
- I throw way more CPU and graphics intensive programs at this computer and it does fine.
- Did I mention Live 10 works with the same project?

Issue happens with both a blank template or a complex project (both load in live 10). I have run as an administor and in safe mode (Alt) with no luck. My PC and graphics card drivers are up to date. I have re-installed live.

Any help you can provide is appreciated.

PC:
AMD 7600 X3D
NVIDA 4080
32 gigs of ram
Focusrite scarlett 18i8 1st gen
Push 2
Loads of samsung SSD storage
many plugins

Update.

It looks like I was wrong and Live 10 seems to have the same issue. Managed to see the failure message (mostly) KERNEL SECURITY CHECK FAILURE.

This does feel like a windows or hardware issue but every program that is not Live works fine -- I am not Hans Zimmer so this computer has multiple uses. I have disconnected my USB hub and all USB devices and did an sfc/scanow for security fixes and everything seems fine. Reaper is also working fine..

I am at a loss.

I seem to have fixed it. If it helps anyone else, Live all of a sudden seem to take issue with some AKAI network DAW drivers. Not sure why there became an issue all of a sudden but as soon as i removed them Live came, well, back to life.

does it repeat if you plug the Akai back in?

Sometimes you have to check if USB devices are in power saving. Sometimes a Windows update will undo small things.
