Capture Midi Arm Button on Each Midi Track?

Post by dontfret » Thu Feb 19, 2026 4:43 pm

Capture midi is one of Ableton's best features and deserves some attention. A lot of us have made great music with it, but also faced the frustration of losing a lot of content because it didn't work as expected.

The main complaints I read involve the wrong tracks being captured. I find it cumbersome that I have to route midi through IAC to be able to capture midi from one track to another, especially because IAC loses my MPE data.

I think a simple solution to a lot of the complaints about it would be treating capture midi like arming tracks; Above the ARM button on each midi track, there can be a Listen button. When it's on (regardless of the source) it's listening and will capture everything from the moment it is armed.

Thanks!

I think the same in my workflow. I'd love to see "capture midi" captures on armed tracks
