We’ve recently started using VideoSync with Ableton for live shows, using the Apple AV adapter to get HDMI output, additional MIDI unit and power.
This has been unreliable, we first suffered video drop outs, with the screen going blank for a second or two before returning. On our last show we experienced audio drop outs too.
After trying various combinations I’m pretty sure it’s the Apple AV adapter causing signal drop outs, even though the audio interface is using a dedicated USB port on the Mac.
The last show I had to scrap the visuals and had the audio interface in one USB port, power in the other.
I'm currently upgrading the OS to Tahoe and on the most recent Ableton 12.3.6 and VideoSync 2.1.3 versions.
Is there a touring grade USB C to HDMI adapter, with additional power though and USB A port for the Mac? The Apple AV adapter is unreliable and compromising the show.
For clarity, the audio interface has it’s own USB port, is not going via the hub but it’s still being effected by the adapter in the other USB port.
Set up is a MBP M1, audio out to RME MADIFace USB, second USB port has HDMI to projector, a MIDI Go box via the USB A port. I scrapped the MIDI Go box for the last show so we just had power in one USB, audio on the other and no problems so I really think the issue is the AV adapter.
