It's possible to rate limit bots on your server. But ...

Doesn't this subdomain run via cloudflare ? I'm sure that should protect against a DOS bot swarm.

This is the last bit of the "old" internet I still visit. The part that isn't scraping my posts for an AI simulacrum of me.

It's not as simple as that unfortunately.

Slow page load is very frustrating.

Faster would be nice.

Much. Faster.

The painfully slow page load is still better than waiting for answers from Ableton tech support of course, but even so.

Painful.
Yeah, taking 40 to 70 seconds to load a page is crazy. And this for each page. That's if you don't get a "This site can’t be reached" (which I got before this reply was finally submitted).
I tried several browsers on different computers, but they are all slow.
The strange part is that sometimes the performance is fast. Instant page loading, as one would expect.

It happens to me as well, even today (01.04.26). More than 30 seconds to load the Ableton Forum, more then 40 seconds to login and exact 42 seconds to be able to be able to post this message.

There seems to be a problem with loading the css and some pics. Espacially a lot of the pics (smilies etc. ) are giving me the html error code 403.

posting.php?mode=edit&p=1837003 is called when you want to post something. This takes around 19 seconds.

Also some javascript code throws the 403, e. g. assets/javascript/editor.js?assets_version=33, which is called at some point when using the comment editor.

What does the error code 403 mean?

The HTTP 403 Forbidden status code indicates that the server understood the request but refuses to authorize it, meaning the client lacks the necessary permissions to access the specific resource.

I've changed my mind, I want the forum to stay exactly the same as it is today. Best to have realistic expectations I think :x

Twenty years ago, two things were true.
My eyes were younger and not as sensitive to brightness, and the dynamic range of monitors was not as wide as it is today. So pure white wasn't as bright as it is now.
Not only is the white glaring, but the font is very small, with the result that there's a lot of completely wasted space that's glaring.
True.

+1

Taking 30 seconds plus to load a page.

Still not indexed in Google yet either.

"what do you want to see? 🔥" = evidence of anything suggested in this 8-month old thread actually being considered for implementation.

The forums have been practically unusable for some while given the page load times. Is something being done about it?

Yes.
It turned into something more complicated than we anticipated, though.
I can't feel more sorry about that.

Just one answer to the thread title question :

We'd all like another forum system.
discourse.org is a standard.

It would be helpful if you could share the timetable. There is a lot of work involved in moving a forum to another platform.
