Slice volumes are lower than original track

Post by jotff » Tue Jun 09, 2026 6:05 pm

when Ableton Live performs the command Slice To New MIDI Track, each of the individual slices have a default volume of -9.00 db, which results in a sliced track that has a volume much lower than the original audio track.

afterwards, i either have to change the volume of each individual slice, which is cumbersome with multiple slices, or i have to apply a volume gain on the entire track.

is there a way to change what the default value of created slices will be?

I suppose you're slicing to individual Simpler/Sampler instances, right?
Then, since these are racked you can simply change one instance's volume to whatever desired value, then right-click that volume knob and select "copy value to siblings"

I think you can create a new Slicing Preset for that.

EDIT: I think the Vocal Slices preset already has much closer gain than the Default one.

I think the reason for it being -9 is that it might be using Velocity for amplitude envelope. If you set it back to zero, might also consider having Velocity off
