Stem Separation Failed?? - Dissapointing..

Post by buckman » Wed Jun 17, 2026 10:39 am

So working on a DJ mix, with around 4 tracks, and when trying to separate out a drum loop, I get this?

Stem Separation failed. Failed to initialize Stem Separation. (Model load failed [0x3])

Why is this suddenly happening?
Never had this before?

Ableton Live Suite 12.4.2

MacOS Sequoia 15.7.3
Macbook Pro M1 Max
8TB SSD (around 5TB free)
64GB RAM

any solution to this?
thanks

Was it a one-shot with a specific file, or aren't you able to separate any file?

Since loading the model is mentioned, you could try thrashing that folder (it will get rebuild automatically after restarting Live, but you can simply move it somewhere else if you want to be safe):

Thanks but uninstalled and re-installed latest Live version as told by Ableton Support and still the same?

These are full tracks for a DJ mix as WAV files which I've used hundreds of times, but all of a sudden this is now throwing up this error?
An obvious bug i believe...

Frustrating, but the high-speed stems "seem" to work, but the Hi-Quality (which I want) give this error?

OK so i did this and dragged the Models folder out onto the desktop.
Then relaunched Live and it seemed to work now in Hi Quality Mode?

And it looks like its rebuilt that Models folder again inside the com.ableton.live? (which I guess it needs to)

So can i delete the desktop dragged out 'Models' folder?

Also if this is fixed it, What happened here? and why? Just in case it happens again?

Yes, but not sure why it happened?

TBH, I don't know 😅
I just know that it's totally safe to try this when you're having issue with (loading) the models.
