Probability sequencer?

Post by Stone Guest » Fri Jul 10, 2026 11:15 am

Hi folks

I'm looking for a device (perhaps some kind of probability sequencer?) that will allow me to create 'random' note values in a MIDI pattern.

I have a bassline that plays 3 different notes per bar. They can be played in any order as long as the timing and note position remains the same. If they're played in the same order each time it's not as interesting as a different note order each time.

So I'm looking for a device that will only affect the note value and will choose a random order of notes as the sequence plays.

Instead of 'do re mi' every bar it could be 'mi re do' then 're do mi' then 'mi do re' etc :?

Anyone know of something like this? Cheers.

Put the 3 notes on top of each other and use an arpeggiator in random mode.

Tried the built-in note groups? Play One/Play All. Should work OK for your case:

For each note used in your bassline riff, make a single chord, and group each chord into Play One (right-click the notes to see Group in the popup menu). Now only one note of each chord will play.
