Live 5 + Access Virus TI......

Post by Dagstarz » Sun Oct 16, 2005 3:01 pm

I'm fairly new and I'm getting a bit confused with my new purchase....

I have just got the Access Virus TI. I use Live 5 for my sequencing etc.....
My question is, does anyone know how to use the Virus TI VST plug-in on multiple midi channels? As soon as I try to add it to more than one channel it complains. Someone else must use the TI, if so how do you get around this? As I want to use the Synth on more than one midi channel in Live 5. I have RTFM but still haven't got anywhere.....

Thanks in advance....

Make a new midi track set up the "MIDI TO" to the virus track. And where it says "TRACK IN" right under MIDI TO assign which channel you want to use.

You can only use one virus plugin but you do get 16 tracks.

I dont know if you tried rendering a virrus track yet, you cant you need to record it as an audio track. Took me awhile to relize this.

This is absolutely the only way I've found to to it as well (concerning routing to the virus control plug-in)

Frank- I've had the same lack of success with rendering as well. Did you find out somewhere that Live "rendering" could not be done? I've been very confused and dissapointed by this...I *have* figured out that I can submix everything and use "resample" ...but that is kinda like reaching around your ass to get to your elbow...
the other more frustrating problem I'm having is with latency/sync/timing and the TI. doesn't seem to matter which host (i've been working in eXT 1.4 and Live 5.0.2)-- but I'm getting varying latencies...if I use the PDC in Live and I only have one TI line and a drum or bass loop, all is in sync. The more TI parts I add, the more it starts sounding like a bad junior high school band.
I wish I had more time to put together a better description of the problem to submit to access to see what they can do-- but at this point I'm just checking to see if I'm alone on this varied latency thing...
are you or anyone else out there seeing this sort of thing?

I've been trying to work with Live and the new Virus as well. Actually the only way I can currently get things in sync is to turn off the viruscontrol plugin and then use the midi (Virus synth) path over USB. After that things are much better. The drawback being that I have to use the hardware outs on the virus for any sound and the nice user interface for saving patches is no longer available.

One strange thing I noticed too is that when using Midi Monitor on the mac I never see any note on/off or any other midi controller data going to the Virus Hardware when I have the VirusControl plugin on. The only thing I see is the clock sync messages coming from live. They must be using their own protocol to send the note data to the Virus. Wonder why they just didn't use the avaiable midi path that is there already as that seems to work better.

I have sent a couple of notes to access on this and they said they are aware of the issues with Live and are working on it. They have been releasing new firmware updates every week so hopefully this gets ironed out soon.

Yes, I'm experiencing latency issues, too, when using the VirusControl VSTi. I find there are no problems when I'm only using the Virus and audio tracks. As soon as I load something like Impulse onto a track, all my MIDI parts will be recorded late. It's strange because I can *hear* the part in time when I play it, but it's out of time after being recorded. I even have the record quantize off so I can see how bad it is--almost a 1/16 note late! If I turn off Delay Compensation in Live, I'll be able to record the MIDI parts properly as I play them, but the stuff programmed for the Virus will play back late. It's annoying as hell. I have no fix for it yet...

Have you tried to set the latency diferent?
