Should I buy Albeton Live 5?

Post by Great1 » Sat Oct 15, 2005 4:59 pm

I'm thinking about buying Albeton Live 5. With all of the recent bugs and problems do you think it is worth it?

Thanks 1000x's for your honesty.
:D

Hard question.

YES, buy it. There is nothing you can choose instead

the choice is yours...

if you are a casual user , go ahead and buy live 5. i believe the abletons will eventually fix the problems. if you are more of a pro , or discerning user....maybe you should buy live 4 , and upgrade later. you might even get a second hand copy off ebay or something.

I am sure the most of bugs depend mainly from your software configuration (third party plugins, other audio progs etc...).

Do NOT buy it. Not until all these problems you see here are fixed. Right now it is like trying to produce music with a computer virus. The thing has so many problems and seems to just keep developing more. Version 5.0.2 solved practically none of the major problems you see on this board. I think you can still get Live 4 which was very solid. Get that cause it's cheaper and more reliable.

I recently bought Live 4.

I will gleefully upgrade to Live 5.1.x when I see that it has gained the solid reputation that 4 has earned.

The bugs in Live 5 are different for every user. I just use ableton live 5 to mix and remix ...live ,whole songs and loops.I use a midi controller and midi keyboard to trigger the clips...no problems at all. Live 5.01 had a bug with the sound (pops, clicks) with big sets, but live 5.02 fixed all.I'm not looking for bugs, this set up works perfect for me and that's all I need to work.
Buy it !!!. :D

P.S. Live 4 is great, too, but the warp in Live 5 is 20 times better and faster.

how can you conciously tell someone to buy it , when so many people are still having problems ? it would seem more realistic to excercise caution before parting with the dollar bills.

this all boils down to a point of view.
Henry, i assume you are having loads of problems, otherwise you wouldnt be recommending live 4.

I use live the same as atomicat, i have loads of native instruments and cubase which i make tunes with, then i sample each loop into live and then mix and match, use lives plugins, warp etc to completely re write the tunes.

I have no problems with Live 5.0.2. At All. even with huge sets.

I have not experienced any problems, other than a crash (when trying to load Reaktor 5 and kontakt 2 into it).

I will conciously tell someone to buy it. i think its cool. :D :D

plus buying live 4, then upgrading later will cost more.

What a question ! BUY IT... of course.
Bugs ? No bugs here, with a MAC. I've been using it on tour for the last 3 weeks (almost no day off), not a bug, not a crash, just pure fun.
I use 5.02 and a 15' PB with 1.5 Go Ram and OSX 10.4.2

as you well know - we all use live differently , what a presumption to make that the poster of this thread will use live the same as you , in the same environment. While it might cost a LITTLE extra to buy live 4 , and upgrade to live 5....it is still the best answer - why is it the best answer? - because live 4 was solid as a rock , and live 5 isnt solid yet. . take a glance at the forums , a hefty chunk of the forum-posting user base are having probs. It makes me sick when people are swept away by hyperbole , and brand loyalty. not to mention the fact that currently , live 5's support is basically 'well it works on our machines!' ...what a laugh. if you had any gigs coming up you would want to use live 4....there is no way im using live 5 LIVE , untill they sort its problems out.
