I've had this problem with Impulse too, with my drum hits.
Not quite sure what to make of it. The hits sound okay going into a hardware sampler, but don't sound very good at all in Impulse.
I think it might have something to do with the default envelope settings or something. Hrm. Either that, or my ears are lying to me... Wouldn't be the first time, heh.

its a known fact that impulse sounds diffrent from most other samplers out there.
what i think impulses problem is that it start a tiny bit too early in the sample.
this is very noticeable on kix for example (jus try to listen to them in your browser and then drop them in an impulse cell) where u often can here a KLIK in the beginning where it was supposed to have a nice round fat attack instead.
what to do then? just to drag the sample into the arrangement window and then ad a little space in front of the sample and render it back into the browser. this sorta helps
most of the times..

well in impulse you should definitely switch the decay to gate instead of trigger - that's the source of the problem 9 out of 10 times...
Don't know about simpler, though. I always thought it represented the raw wave so well I couldn't tell the difference. maybe you have some settings screwed up in the simpler? Or the output is just too low? Or spread is on? etc.
