I have tried messing around with reverb, but reverb seems to alter the sound, while what I am looking for is something which will simply repeat a short loop a few times while fading out, but without degrading the sound itself

Live comes with three delays (if you count the grain delay). Otherwise you will probably find a lot (like 100+) free ones if you head over to www.kvraudio.com

Or you can make your own with device chains

What setting do I need Simple Delay on, for it to delay on ever bar until it fades out?

The simple delay is a good place to start

If your are trying to have it repeat once a bar you should set left and right to 16 (I *think* if I'm not mistaken these are sixteenth notes). I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong on this one. Check "sync" to on for both so it will follow your beat settings. Set feedback to a fairly high lever say 85-95% and it should do what you want. The more feedback, the longer the delay will go on. If you have high feedback it will progressively get louder if the effect is left on for a longer amount of time versus being on for a second for example.

One thing I like to do on the simple delay is to put an eq 4 in front of it on a chain. That way you can isolate a part of a song that you want to delay. If you don't want to have the bass repeat, you can filter that out using the eq 4 before the signal even goes into the simple delay.

Play around with it, it gets easy to make it do what you want it to after some experience.

to let 1 bar repeat you need simple delay set to "2" and not 16...the rest sounds good.
another thing to notice: your original sample has to stop when the delay kicks in or it will not fade...hopes this helps! :)

also: when you tweak an effect when you activate the delay (the effect has to be in front of the delay) the tweaking will be incorporated in the delay. filter can make some cool combo's here...

Nixon, you sure about that? I think vinkalmann had it right. 16 for one bar delay.

Definitely 16 versus 2. Tested it out.

alternatively, you could just loop the pattern and use a volume envelope to make it fade out.
