Running Ableton Live and Audiomulch together on one machine

Post by daobra » Fri Oct 21, 2005 12:15 pm

Hi there,

I need some help setting up my laptop and Multiface with the above two applications. It is not a topic about Live per se but I hope you can help.

I'd like to run Audiomulch together with Live so that i can do my sounddesign in audiomulch and have the option to record that straight into Ableton Live for arrangement and realtime looping purposes.

I cannot get this to work, however. I can get Live to record input from AM through ADAT pipe but i cannot make Live play sound when sound is turned on in AM. This way, monitoring the AM input in Live is not possible. Could anyone tell me if this is possible at all? I remember running other external apps (winamp) through Live and being able to monitor them.

I have selected only the appropriate in- and outputs in the two apps so that they are not overlapping in both apps.

However, one thing that may be related to the problem is the option in AM to "open all channels". Even though i have only selected adat outputs, no ins, AM crashes when i do not select this option. I'm wondering why this happens. All of this happens using either ASIO or MME.

I'hoping this has been done before and i'm staring in the wrong direction or that I really need a second synched machine to make this happen.

if you have any questions, please ask.

thanks for your time.

daobra.

Maybe you can use some virtual audio cable (like http://www.ntonyx.com/vac.htm).

You send audiomulch output in this cable...
... You get the audio in Ableton.

You can then use Audiomulch in Ableton as an external In.

well i don't really have problems getting the audio into Live, the issue is that Live playsback the audio choppy when i either monitor an input or playback a clip. This, of course, only happens when the audio engine of mulch is turned ON.

perhaps it is a limitation of the audiodriver of the HDSP, but i'm pretty sure it is multiclient. It could also be a bug in audiomulch or ASIO, i'm not sure.

i've tried everything by now and guess it's just not going to work. bummer..

i'm guessing you're on pc, in which case i'm pretty sure asio drivers won't let you use two programs with them at once. try it using your directx/wdm drivers and you might be able to use both of them with your soundcard at once.

otherwise you could try the virtual cables davy mentioned.
