I would like to be able unlink output buses so that it is posible to output any track in mono, and not stereo. Similar to the input "link" button.
As it is now I can only do this by hardpanning two tracks so that they will share one bus, but this is not ideal.
The reason why this is needed is because I prefere using outboard gear (mixer) and thus need each track out in their own channel.
Also, I dislike that the master out occupies one whole stereo pair (ouput 1 + 2 i.e.). In a situation like above I would rather use that stereo pair other than as a master.
Just some observations.

Bump'de'bump...
Imagine if we weren't bound to the main output's left-right stereo aesthetic and were able instead to do true quadrophonic or "surround" sound performances?
Bringing in the concept of independent outputs would be pretty useful.

here's an idea for u guys-----
why not use imaginative use of panning to achieve your goal, remember auto panning can set up an moving template for solos and outputs etc...stop thinking so laterally about output limitations....its software to play with (the best kind of software IMHO)

nice--you're totally right. In fact the panning idea (along with automation as you mentioned) is more flexible and cooler.
