Nothing funny about that. Live 5 is a more CPU intensive program than Live 4, especially with complex warping being used... as is the case on the Live 5 test.

I had a G4 933 mHz until a week ago that listed about 140%;
then I went PC, for a big deal based on these tests ;and money...

1) Ableton Live CPU Meter - 24%
2) Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model -Laptop/Dell Inspiron 9300
3) Operating System -Windows XP home
4) CPU Make Model and Speed -Pentium M 2,26 gHz
5) Amount of Ram / Speed of Ram - 1Gb/533 mhz (not sure if this is ram speed)
6) Soundcard - Firewire Digidesign 002 Rack
7) Hard Disk Drive Speed - local 5400 RPM and extern Firewire LaCie BigDisk 7200 RPM

actually I thought I would go below twenties with those specs, I tweaked what I could as I followed the instructions on "how to" pages but only gained about 1 % after about 10-15 tweaks. So probably this is just it, but perfect though.
The power is overwhelming after 5 months of ableton 4-5 on that G4

I expected too a "less than 20%" with such a centrino.. I mean I have a 1.86 and I score 25 or 26 and I was tinking to sell the 1.86 and go for a 2.blabla
anyway, you'll be happy of your centrino

my test score, sir

Post by ebenextra » Sun Oct 23, 2005 1:09 pm

Hey, the hyperthread disabling trick really stabalised the cpu usage. My pc was giving spikes of 5-7% with hyperthread, without it stayed constant. And abou 2 or 3% less than with HT!!

Anyway, here are the results:

1) Ableton Live CPU Meter % -- ave. 37, peak 39
2) Laptop/Desktop? -- Desktop, Asus motherboard P4P800-vm
3) Operating System -- Xp Sp2
4) CPU Make Model and Speed -- P4 3.2Ghz (X86 Family) whatever that is?
5) Amount of Ram / Speed of Ram (if you know) --1.7Gb DDR 400
6) Soundcard (Stock or add on?, usb/firewire/pci ?) -- X-station USB
7) Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know) Sure it's 7200rpm

P.S AdamJay, what do you mean with : Audio - Input Audio Device > "No Input" ????

Would that not disable your sound card for the test???

I didn't follow that step, if you could explain I'll redo it...

Cheers

whenever someone wants to make one.
unfortunately i haven't the time, nor the patience with MS Excel.
but if anyone would like to compile the results in this thread and create a graph, i'll be more than willing to host it on my server.
