Effects on a bassline?

try a chorder - but only once in track - about four notes should do it
and only on simple bass line
my other computer is an atari

so as a general rule the kick drum and bass should be mono tracks and everything else can be stereo?

really you can do anything you like, depends on your genre. I still like the 60's accidental stereo with the band in one side and some vocalists with an acoustic in the other .
using this technique can still produce nice results for the livingroom listener.

but if you try this with anthing destined to come out of a big rig there will be people thinking the bass amps have blown on one stack!
