Juno Records Digital Downloads.

Post by dallas! » Sun Oct 30, 2005 9:46 pm

All.

Some of you may remember I've been talking about Juno records (http://www.juno.co.uk) going digital for some time. Well I can now confirm that the lanuch date of Juno Digital downloads will be 1st December 2005.

Expect one of the largest collections of Digital Dance Music from all Genre's, including some labels entire back catalogues of previous vinyl releases.

As I get any more info I'll post it here.

Incidently if you're a label and would like to get involved in distributing your tunes digitally through Juno check out http://www.juno.co.uk/digital/label/registration/

Cheers

Im amazingly happy to be honest. Is this the holy grail i been seeking? I just vented my frustrations out at another forum on how pathetic record stores can not provide MP3s an are being destroyed by the record industry. Can a dj also do a walk in visit an download Mp3 an still conversate with his or her peers?
Vote for Pedro.

Great news.. we should all support these sites as best we can. Juno has a great catalog and I for one will be happy to see the others sites get some competition, this is healthy. Good luck to them!

This might be good. As long as the mp3 bitrate is high enough .

how far d'you reckon we are off full wav or aiff downloads? Is this likely to happen anyway cos of DRM issues - even though sites like Bleep are DRM free?
On my 2mb broadband it only takes 3 or 4 mins to download a 50mb file, and my ISP are upgrading that to 10mb next year. I'd definitely pay an extra 50p - £1 for a WAV version.

any sites out there that offer this?

FLAC would be essential. Or WAV files (maybe shipped on CD?)

Please recommend this! I pay for higher bitrates so the quality isn't compromised. FLAC is lossless compression and the best compromise outside of offering WAV or AIFF.

fingers crossed,

rob.

The Bit Rate will be a choice of 192 or 320 (Fixed not variable).

The distribution of Wav's or FLAC will be at the discretion of the label.

nice! so it will at least be an option if a label so wishes to offer that format?

I HOPE SO. Man, I will buy so much stuff. But make sure that the price is U.S. friendly too. $3.00 for a track if Juno prices them at 1.49 pounds...

Can U.S. dollar spendin' music freaks get a break? Beatport works well in this regard. $3.00 track on a CD (WAV file format) I believe. If Juno is competitive with this, it will kick ass.

:)

Great news, but one thing I will say, I hope they think carefully about their pricing. DJDownload are charging £1.99 for a 320 kps version of a track, whereas Beatport are only charging $1.99 for the same bitrate. I'll always buy from Beatport where possible because of this. I hope Juno do the right thing, and and undercut DJD, and provide a viable, UK-based opponent for a fair marketplace.

Apparently the pricing of tunes will be up to the individual labels. Can't tell you much more at the more.

I cannot wait for all digital world for the dj. I hate record shop buying as most the shops only push what they like or do not stock so many good labels. Also like the idea of buying tracks directly from my hotel room then I can play in the club a few hours later. This is a dream. Bring it on..

I do Like Juno have have spent quite a bit with them. However recently I have started to move toward MP3's partly because of Ableton and partly because of the issues with vinyl (and the time to record vinyl to MP3).

I have used www.Traxsource.com and found it is simply excellent for House/Us House. It very cheap easy to use and If you buy a complete EP (which costs from $3.75-$7/8 for 320kbps) you usually get the CD label graphic and CD insert, this saves a bit of time if you backup your MP3's to Audio CD's.

They have quite a few promos appearing only a day or two after the promo vinyl is available. Most importantly of all, where ever possible Traxsource usesd the digitial master from the record labels to crerate the MP3 file.

They also have some great mixes (through cyberjams radio) that can be streamed through www.traxsource.com.
