Problem with ableton and uc-33
hi,
i have a problem running the evolution uc-33 with ableton in mac os 9...
In mac osx the uc33 is working with ableton, but in mac os 9 it won´t...
in the system profiler the computer recognise the uc33 correctly, and in the ableton preferences i can select the uc33! (so i think the oms setup is correct...). So everything seems to be allright. But when i´m turning a potie or moving a fader ableton don´t get those... what am i making wrong???
and theres another problem with the uc33, but just in mac os x: when i´m turning the uc33 off and on again while running ableton, ableton will not recognise the uc33 again... i have to quit ableton and then turn the uc33 off and on again, wait a few seconds, then start ableton and select in the ableton preferences the uc33, and THEN its working again....
normally thats not a problem because theres no reason to turn the uc33 of, but think of a live gig where the uc33 is turning off, what will you do? stop the live gig and restart ableton?
Anyone got the uc33 and have simillary problems?
cheers

evs,
I tried it in OS 9 and got it to work until I switched it off and back on again.
I had to restart the computer and it started working again....
Make sure you have the latest version of the driver from their website.
If you do, try what others have suggested; bypass the USB...
Also be sure you are up-to-date with your Mac OS X.

I had the same problem in OS 9. I un-installed the Evolution drivers (by typing "evolution" in Sherlock and deleting everything) then re-installed with the latest drivers.
Make sure you don't have the UC-33 or UC-16 switched on when you install the drivers.
Then switch it on and do a new OMS studio setup. That fixed it for me and everyone I've spoken to about it.
As for the UC-33 not re-initialising in OS X, I'm pretty sure that's down to the Core Audio Mac drivers. So I assume Mac will update those for the next OS update.

The CoreAudio framework is updated from 2.0 to 2.1 in Panther (10.3). CoreMIDI and CoreMIDIServer go from 1.3.2 to 1.4.
As far as what changes are involved with these three frameworks, I don't know.
I haven't yet tried out any audio applications or hardware under Panther, except for iTunes with the built-in output. If I run into problems, I'll post descriptions on this forum.

I've been testing with other non-Evolution class compliant devices with the same result for audio and midi devices. They just don't re-initialise within an application after being switched off or un-plugged. So we'll have to keep the class compliant MIDI or Audio devices swiched on for now.
I'll post my results once I get Jaguar tested out too.

Hi Micke,
I'm not sure to what do you refer.
If you mean the support for the detetcion of plugged/unplugged MIDI or Audio devices while Live is running, this is so far I know not easy possible under Windows because there's no support for such iusses from the system.
The notifications about plugged or unplugged MIDI or Audio devices is a benefit of OS X. But it's still not yet supported within Live.
regards,
Alex
