My friend is already on it ! He is a user for a long time now; being beta tester and all. I've got nothing much as in ideas myself, since I didn't go far in the understanding of the program. But please greet him on my behalf and from my Italian mate Fabio. Love what he does !Angstrom wrote:coolamo wrote: Isadora is great ! A friend of mine is using it on my side (me use Live), for a dance/multimedia show, and he does all kind of stuff mixing prerecorded video plus 3 micro cameras plus some text input, things triggered by the signal I send him... -We didn't go yet with midi but that would make it even more interesting in the interaction.

Mark is quite approachable about ideas for the App, he is a musician really so he really likes musicians feedback on it. He has a lot of performance artists/ installation artists and VJs using it. If you have any requests I'll actually be seeing him tonight so I'll pass any great ideas on !
vj software?
Live 5.0.3 - IBM Thinkpad R51 1.5ghz Centrino - 1,5 Go RAM - 7200 RPM 2nd HDD intern - RME Multiface - Windows XP Pro SP2
Live 6 with support for video clips, freeframe and core image plugins, video warping, and quartz composer creations!! All within the smooth, logical Ableton framework!
Sorry, just dreaming...
I go back and forth on hoping this gets included in Live. The last thing I want is for our Ableton friends to get "distracted" from what they do best. Still, something about it just makes so much sense...

I've been beta testing Arkaos 3.5 HW Mac for a while.
Core Image support is awesome - 75+ fantastic effects in Tiger with minimal CPU load. Should be released this week...

use anything. my favourite is taking any clip and putting effects on it and then resampling, then repeat. all done in arkaos of course or premiere.smutek wrote:Hey, I'm really not trying to thread jack or anything but I have beenvery curious about video lately but I don't own a digicam.
If you don't have a cam what kind of stuff do you use for source material? I really know absolutely nothing about it.
you can also rip stuff from vob files,(dvds) and combine clips with transparency layers which is fun, and there is also the option of making an image sequence from stills. an easy way to do this is number your files in order and throw em into a folder-- and if u got quicktime, go to open image sequence-then you have the option of exporting it as a movie(it gives u control over the length of stills in fps too).
the other thing ive been messing with is making short clips with my rebel xt, with crazy aperture settings and blurry camera jittered sequences. lots of fun
vvv see my little movie below? vvv it was from thx1138 all i did was assign the video to a knob on my ms20 controller and scratch the vid

how do you find the frame rate? does it seem to lag abit with complex layering? and is the bpm actually sync..?
I think incorporating video into Live would be a BIG mistake...aside from a movie window, for film scoring.
Ableton already has to hear so many people bitch about the "performance problems." Even though Ive never had them.
Max/MSP/Jitter has an amazing collection of OpenGL rendering objects, that allow me to generate realtime, interactive 3d objects, without any source video. Much like Autechre's 3d video work, it allows full axis' control, and everything can be assigned to Midi, or an audio stream, so you can have interactivity with both.
Ive been doing this stuff for a long while now, and the OpenGL rendering is priceless. And its not cliche, or cheesy, unless you build it that way. Ive gotten a LOT of positive feedback, there arent many people, much less "vj's" that are doing COOL 3d stuff.
Dont fear Jitter, its industry standard, and for a reason.

The Mac HW version uses Core Image and your graphics card (optimized for nVidia) for the effects. It's super fast, depending on your graphics card. Your processor is freed up to run QuickTime movies, Live, etc.adhmzaiusz wrote:so i assume that ive been using the non-hardware version all along?? what a drag that explains a few things...hambone1 wrote:

Frame rate shoots right up in the HW version. I'm doing everything XGA (1024 x 768, native projector resolution) and can keep frame rates high. BPM sync still doesn't work properly, but apparently Arkaos are working on it. I do all of my animation based on 120bpm (500ms/beat), then have to speed it up or slow it down to stay beat matched. Arkaos are apparently working on sync.
Another fantastic feature in the HW version is real-time interpolation. My live video from the cameras is captured PAL (720 x 576), but the 1024 x 768 output to the projectors has no jaggies.
So has anyone been using anything for A/V performances? i hear a lot about vj software but not much about actually using them together. I am trying to use my Tactic http://www.lividinstruments.com but not luck with getting it to work with the software and Live, do i have to use rewire?
Probably... Have you tried it yet? Live works quite well with rewire.elementv wrote:I am trying to use my Tactic http://www.lividinstruments.com but not luck with getting it to work with the software and Live, do i have to use rewire?
mbp 2.66, osx 10.6.8, 8GB ram.
Are you using Union 1.5? I would think it would work rewired to Live. Arkaos VJ and Live work perfectly together rewired.elementv wrote:So has anyone been using anything for A/V performances? i hear a lot about vj software but not much about actually using them together.
