Start sample BEFORE loop startpoint, then repeat in loop!

Post by bigbass » Thu Sep 12, 2002 1:49 pm

Hi all Live-People!

As I use Live not only for drum-style-loops, but also for vocal/speach-samples, it would be great to be able to set the start-point of the loop outside (before) the loop, which would make it easy to insert a sample like "we all know live is great", have it played from top, and then beeing looped on "live is great". Got the idea?

This could be used for drum-pickups in loops, too, playing the pickup once, then continue inside the loop-markers :)

Bassy regards,
Benjamin

This would mean that if you use live to mix with, you could have say a
track 5 minutes long you have recorded from vinyl playing through
then just looping on the last 2 bars whilst you mix in your next track in.
Cool!!

I agree. I currently can get the same effect once a clip is duplicated in the Arrange view by cutting into a copied clip on the duplicate but it would be godd and relatively easy for the software to be able to launch a clip this way.

I know this is an old thread / request but it seems like this would simple to implement and should be included in the next update!!!

I think this would be a very useful musical tool.......

I think this is an essential feature. I would add that it should also be possible to start the clip on any beat, not just on beat one. As it currently stand, no matter what you call your markers, the offset marker always signifies beat one. Percussionists know what I'm talking about, because they usually get into their groove from the last beat of the measure. For me, this is very important.

Yep, great feature.

And would you guys beleive that the Roland S range of samplers have had thise very feature from day 1 which was around 1991. Theres also other features in Roland samplers that have yet to be implemented in any software sampler I have yet seen.

Opps a bit off topic but had to mention that.

yes... like a normal sampler would let you do.

The only things i can tell right now:

- we would want to have it ourselfs.
- we are working on it.
- it is a classical looks-simple-is-fu**ing-complicated-to-programm thing

i have no idea _when_ it will be done. sorry....

Cheers, Robert/Ableton

Thanks for keeping aware of the issue.
I take back my "seems simple to implement" comment.......

..no need to take it back. it indeed _seems_ to be simple. i thought it would be an easy job too ....

hi all

i've only briefly played with the demo, but one thing I wanted to be able to do was bring clips in on the offbeat. I couldn't find a way. Is this easily done? If not then I guess it means having silence before the clip and setting the loop points after 1 or 2 etc beats in the way outlined in this thread...

have oyu ever played with the paramter "offset" if you use a looping sample ?

this allows you to start a loop at any position.
