second that emotion
Yeah, another voice to the chorus. Just got a PC (was a powerbookie) and found out that all the tunes I import into my itunes library are automatically imported as AAC files. I can change the preference, but I have 500 tunes to convert into ickier MP3s or space stealing wavs. waaah. What about it moderators? any hope? Anyone got a rec on a dependable and easy to use converter app?
I've been thinking alot about about Apple Lossless format too. Also saves gobs of space but not lossy! That would be really nice too. There is a thread on www.osxaudio.com where many people are converting their entire (hundreds of) CD collections to Apple Lossless here:

Plus I believe you can always convert an Apple Lossless file to an AAC with a mouseclick.
Still think AAC is the most important but if we got Apple Lossless support too, we'd have the whole kit & kaboodle. No compromises.
mp3's sound grainy and aliased compared to AAC

The lack of AAC support is holding Live from being useable as a DJ tool for me.... I have 20GB of AAC on my computer. Live's still great as a production/jamming tool, but with AAC support it'd be my all-in-one music app that I'd use for everything. And to the Abletons, I promise if you added this feature I'd become a Live evangelist and convert heaps of people onto your software..... so many friends would get into Live after seeing me rip up an impromptu DJ set on my iBook at their house.... but without AAC this dream (for both me and for Ableton) cannot be.... alas I'll ask once more...
PLLEEEAAAASSEE!!!!!!!! Add AAC!
IIRC There's some wierd-ass licensing issues with the AAC CODEC, like you have to pay for the privilege to use it or something. Maybe that's why Ableton haven't added it. If that IS the reason, then it's poor form on Ableton's behalf. In fact, either way it's poor on ableton's behalf. Get with the times, guys! Good on you for supporting OGG Vorbis and all, but how many people actually have Vorbis music libraries? (Actually I have one linux nerd friend who does, but I digress...)
It would be worth Ableton's while to put it in just because of how much extra promo they'll get from me alone, showing off the program to my friends on my iBook remixing my music library in real-time.

Hi folks,
just to clarify a few things. If we would add AAC support it would only include Non-DRM AAC.
So for instance, protected AAC files you bought from iTunes Music Store would not be supported.
Beside that we try to give AAC a priority boost on our endless improvement list.
But it will not make it into a bug fix update.

Hi folks,
as I wrote before it will for sure not come with an bug fix update because the effort for implementing and mainly testing is too high. Beside that there are some judicial issues we have to clear before.
So however the version will be named it, when it comes then only with a upgrade.
