Samson CO1U USB MIC & LIVE5
Samson CO1U USB MIC & LIVE5
After waiting close to 3 months on my order to arrive I have finaly got it.
I have tested the Samson CO1U USB Condenser mic with Live5 and it works a treat.
They market this mic as an all in one solution for people that dont have a soundcard. All you do is plug it in and XP detects it without the need to install any drivers.
But you cant use this mic without an ASIO driver to record musical syncopation, because the latency is unbearable and Samson does not mention this anywhere.
Thanks to Michael Tippach's ASIO4ALL comes to save the day again. it detects the mic as extra inputs, then select the additional inputs from Live prefs and then from the mixer its all hanky dory from there on.
I just wanted to come and blog this down here before somone asks if it works with Live.
My testing was done by making beat sounds with my voice to metronome.
I can monitor and record my voice with effects on beat without any latency issues on my AMDXP2600 768RAM (16MB is shared with video!). So far I have recorded 8 audio channels together with a few FM7 MIDI synth tracks with an Evolution MK449C controller.
Its all good!

hurry up.... mr squigle....
I've been getting private messages for instruction on how to setup.
here it is for future reference.
first of all.. if you are using a soundcard that does not support ASIO already, (for eg' onboard soundblaster type) i will reccomend that you install ASIO4ALL www.asio4all.com if you have not done so already.
make sure you have your "I-O" tab ticked "on" from the right pane, to see the ins & outs.
then go to the audio channel mixer (any audio channel will do!)
on the ins & outs you should have something like this: Audio From - EXT IN/1-2.. Audio To - Master.
now select "1/2" and then select configure.
select ASIO for driver.
select ASIO4ALL for audio device.
select hardware setup that will bring up the panel for ASIO4ALL and "Enable" all of the Samson CO1U channels from there.
now back to prefrences/audio/settings select "INPUT CONFIG" and enable those extra channels that corresponds with CO1U.
go back to any audio channel where you would like to use the mic and select
input 3 or 4.
you can leave montior on "AUTO"
thats it!

Has anyone used this thing with a Mac?
I have been thinking that maybe it would be the ultimate laptop 'creativity partner'... something you can just carry around anywhere and everywhere to use at anytime.... even with the most portable of external interfaces, by the time you include your laptop, USB/Firewire cable, Interface, Mic cable and mic, that is a chunky setup.
Something to lay down ideas, not necessarily to record your final production quality album with....

Did the work around
Hi there, MrSleepy I did your work around but still I get after a min or so talking i get scratchy voice, a bit of a delay but I am ok with that, alot better since the ASIO4ALL and my software SoftPre you get from the C01U website. But after talking for a bit i get scratchy, I am ok for a bit and love the sound. Then after talking for 3 mins or less and if i peek or play other audio then well my voice sounds all scratchy. Kinda feels like I need to clear out something out or restart but if I don't wait a min or so it will stay scratchy..
i am tying but I should of went with a normal mic...
Funny, on the Samson C01U sit they have the work around for all recording/audio software but Live5. Wonder?

But still thanks for you help, wish i knew what to do. Going to have to use other sofware for next recording if i need to get it to Sirius on time.
later
