Live 5 Tutorial DVD by Morg

Post by Phree » Tue Nov 01, 2005 8:16 am

The Live 5 Tutorial DVD by Morgan Pottruff is due to start shipping this month for about $40.

Here's a pic of the box: http://askvideo.com/catalog/images/larg ... onlive.jpg

This site gives you the gory details of the DVD content: http://askvideo.com/catalog/product_inf ... ucts_id=33

Call me slow, but I have been waiting for such a product to become available that's not a book & that has more videos to teach me about Live 4/5. I'm planning to buy.

The write up on this tut says it has:

-38 Videos
-2 hours of instructional video
-Highest quality ever seen in tutorial videos
-Easy to use interface
-Great for users of all Live versions
-Mac OSX & PC compatible
-Requires computer with DVDRom Drive

Who else is grabbing a copy?

Guess I'll promote myself as well...

I'll personally come over to your house and give you a lap dance while I show you how to trigger a clip. Every time you do it right...lap dance. That's right. All this for $28 and a hug.

Call me crazy, but using a Live 4 graphic to promote a tutorial for Live 5 ain't the best marketing strategy. Makes me wonder how about the quality of the product.

Brian...

Is this totally new content or have you added to the v4 some new stuff? I notice that the (very well received) v4 version has different authors?

Just wondering...

Hopefully he (Brian) will have new content as I was one of the authors on the Live 4 CSi and was NOT happy with the way it turned out (not enough time to do it due to ridiculous deadlines before I even had the beta of Live 4, had to split the duties with another author halfway through so the continuity is off, etc.)

Was not the best experience I've had which is why neither one of us accept to do the Live 5 version, but it seems that it is now in more capable hands this time around from what I hear!

Ouch. Despite all that, you've gotten pretty rave reviews on Amazon. But, having been in the tech publishing business for a few years, I have no doubt that the story you're telling is true. Too bad. It could be a very effective tool....

The Live 5 CSi is all new material. Obviously there will be some overlap from the V4 disc, but I did not use any of the V4 content, and I cover the new features in-depth. Yeah, these things are crazy to do because of the deadlines, but it sounds like I had a much smoother experience.

I think people are really going to appreciate the content in the V5 disk.

Not saying the end result was bad... Live 4 CSi did get some good reviews and is still selling pretty well (and I AM getting royalty checks still, so thank you to all that have purchased it) just wish I had more time and a smoother experience with it so I could have produced a better product. Then again, I am NEVER satisfied with any of the work I do, so that's just me...

Well, even Craig Anderton has been saying he won't be doing more computer software books, for similar reasons...too hectic, AND too short lived. It's a tough cycle ... with a short return Window I guess.

I can recommend Brian Jackson's
Ableton Live 5 CSi Master CD-ROM.
In fact, I recommend it to the class
I teach (http://andrew-duke.com/course.html)
and nope, I don't get anything from Brian
or Thomson for this recommendation, so it
is from the heart. Andrew

A clarification:
Brian Jackson's Ableton Live 5 CSi Master is
a CD-ROM, not a book.
