{OT} Why do we fear death?

Post by claudek » Sat Nov 05, 2005 10:21 am

Why do we fear death? Is it the fear of unknown or no control?
I am weird I guess, but always find it interesting subject..
What do you think? Maybe one does not always fear this as well?

Hard to fear being unconscious when you're unconscious so may as well
fear it when you're conscious.

The only thing to fear, is fear itself.

Why fear something that will happen anyway. Just hope you wont drown or be tortured to death.
The only thing i really fear is leading a pointless life. Then dying with the last thought "what the hell was all that about?"

yeah but no but yeah! Shut up!

We fear death because we cant fathom it and know that we never will. Anyway surviving death of loved ones is worse than dying. You have to carry that burden with you till it's your turn.

THen when you have children a 3rd dimension is added on top - the whole force of instinct and evolution is added to the fear of them dying or you dying and abaondoning them so it's 2 more equally as bad fears but added ON TOP of the other so the fear is even 3 times as bad

next to that the actual thought of me dying is a breeze

sadly, the chances are thats how it will go. Unless you reach enlightenment, or are mother theresa or something. Even the most famous celebrities and lawmakers who we so feebly worship as societies will probably get the the end and think "hmmm....yeah so I shagged alot of women, did alot of drugs, saw most of the countries on Earth, did what I liked, and now it's over.....so what the fuck was all that about?"

Cant take any of it with you

Ce parfum de nos années mortes
Ceux qui peuvent frapper à ta porte
Infinité de destin
On en pose un, qu'est-ce qu'on en retient?

Le vent l'emportera

Pendant que la marée monte
Et que chacun refait ses comptes
J'emmène au creux de mon ombre
Des poussières de toi

Le vent les portera
Tout disparaîtra
Le vent nous portera

Nice one, tres beau....

Me think two things make the fear vanish: poetry as paws posted and looking inside. Fearing death is fearing looking inside one's self, listening to the dreams, to the hidden selves in the subconscious... Buddhists are said to prepare for death during life through their dreams.
Waiting for death is like waiting for nothing, fearing death is like not wanting to live your life.
