Anyone not like HR824's or Truth's?

I searched every monitor topic so far. All the info was great. But I didnt see many negative (or any for that matter) reguarding the Mackie HR824's or the Behringer Truths.

A lack of posts may just be the answer I am looking for, but if please post here if you do have any negative opinions on either. What was wrong with them, and what you use now instead. thank you.

i've bitches and moaned about both of those. i used to have to sell them!

truths are so harsh on the highs and cause ear fatigue. mackie's people love, and if you are doing club music theyre fine. but as soon as you need to record some vocals or work with real instruments, the mids just do not have enough detail for my own personal liking.

hr824s are industry standard, can't go wrong with them. thats what I have coincendentally and I love 'em.

I own TR6s, they seriously lack bottom end, they were ok to start with, but they're a weak link in my system.

Any reason to consider 624s instead of 824s?? I play in a small studio at home, would 624s sound better because I'd be driving them louder, ie more in the sweet spot where the circuitry is tuned? Anyone have real experience with them?

Hr 824s are excellent, I use em, love em, mixed many albums and recordings on them. The Behringers are about 1/3 the price, and you get what you pay for, big suprise huh?

I had a pair of HR824 long ago, about when they were new. Though I loved the sound of them, as SweetJesus said, they are hard to work with. The sound is "too" beautifull in fact. Mean they will tolerate a lot of defaults in the mid range, and allow you to push basses way too much. But what beautifull basses !! For one I could really hear the quality of basses, not only pressure.
So I wouldn't suggest them alone for a studio work, but along with a good all pair of NS10 for instance, wich I still love to work on the mid range.

I have Event PS8's, which I believe are now called TR8's. They don't lie to me and are very reasonably priced. I think they around $600-700 a pair, had them for a while so I don't remember the exact price I paid.

i used to have mackie hr624....they are preety nice monitors, less bass than the 824 , whci is better if you have a small room...the 824 have lot of bass..keep that in mind if you live in an apt.....but anyways....after i went to my local store and heard the Genelec 8040's....wowwww...it was hard to go back to mackies.....i ended up selling the hr624 and bought Genelec 8040....Im all set for a while with my monitors

I play in four bands, and two of the bands the guitarist has Truths, I have 824's. Our music is mostly instrumental originals, in styles ranging from funk to jazz, latin, eastern, african, carribean, with some rock thrown in. Another band is pretty much rock, another is my live with Live duo, doing instrumental electronica from mostly hip hop/trip hop to a bit of house, reggae, funky stuff.... Basically, the 824's have always sounded great to me, over a large range of styles, acoustic guitars and vocals to wacked out distorted bass and keyboards. The mixes sound a lot flatter and full on the 824's vesus the same mix burned to disc and played on my guitarists Truths. Granted, there are more variables in the soundchain and different rooms, but we both agree the 824's are better. But they cost 3x as much, are they 3x better--don't think so. I guess ideally you could go to some huge store and demo both with your favorite recordings, but thats probably a pipe dream.

824 here and love 'em, as someone said though, they need room to breathe and show what they got, which is plenty. I auditioned quite a few diff. brands before buying and was quite impressed by how un-hyped the Mackies sounded-you could hear everything laid out cool and clear allllll the way down without sounding tweaked at any point. Mate uses Dynaudio BM-6 (?) and they be sweet too, but different. Whatever you get though, most important is learning your monitors and taking care of your ears.

ps Stompy...are you a gear-stalker or what? We seem to have near identical rigs!

Another happy 824 owner here. If you have a smaller room, definitely get the 624's, you'll have far less problems IMO.

I always found the 824s to sound "great" but that's not necessarily what you really want from a studio monitor.

The KRK V8 MK IIs are a far superior monitor IMHO, all the kick of the 824s with none of the muddiness in the low-mids.

I don't want to step on any toes... if you own HR824s and they work for you and all is well, well, that's awesome.

But I don't like them. I used to like them. I used to want them. But after demoing them for the 500th time I started to think otherwise.

It seemed that when I would demo monitors (skipping around and trying different pairs with the CD that the customer brought in) when I would get to the HR824s the CDs would sound dramatically differnt. Often times when I would skip to the HR824s the same mix that sounded balanaced on the other monitors would sound totally out of whack on the HR824s, almost like it was material that wasn't mixed at all. I used to think that it was because the HR824 was superior and it exposed an ugliness that the other monitors missed, but this was not the case.

A good friend of mine was an owner of HR824s and he loved them for a while, but after a year or two he started getting tired of them. He sold them and bought a pair of Dynaudio BM6As. He is very happy now. Very very happy.

I love the Genelec 8040 and Dyn BM6A. I use Event 20/20bas and they're great so I can't justify buying another pair even though I want to some times.

What exactly would you guys classify as a small or large room. WHat square foot?, etc.
