Clips recording knob movements

Post by EddieHowell » Thu Nov 03, 2005 9:14 am

Not sure if you can already do this, but I've gatehred that you currently can't.

You make a clip, set it going, and it records all MIDI notes & other CCs from your controller.

If you assign a CC to a parameter e.g. a VSTi cutoff, moving that control will no longer record movements into the playing Session clip. The same too is true to mixer controls (volume, sends etc).

I understand why this is so, but is there a workaround, because drawing in automation isn't a preferred 'option'?

press the big red round record button on the top of the screen (tool bar) before recording....don't just arm the track
I hope it helps :o

Hi, and thanks for your reply.

I'm afraid the main record button doesn't do the job I'm after. I want the track parameters e.g. fader, to be recorded INTO THE CLIP, not the arrange window section.

Load up a MIDI track with VSTi on it, then create a clip, set it going & notice how the fader movement doesn't get recorded on the clip anyhow. See what i mean?

actually, yes it can. if you route the midi controller (set as track input in preferences) through a midi track and output that to a midiyoke (controlaid on mac?) thats set as a remote input in preferences you can record any tweaks you have assigned through the midiyoke into clips in that track.

have a look at this thread

Clearscreen: thanks for your reply, but I still dont' get it.

I've done what you said, with MIDI Yoke, but no joy. Also, is there any point in this method, as it's essentially the same as just setting the hardward controller as a MIDI Remoter in preferences, no?

Essetially, what we need to happen if to have a clip playing, but where moving the fader (via the mouse) records the movements into the clip, see what I mean?

i see, you want to record your mouse movements into a clip... no dice! check the feature request forum on that one. you can record your midi controller movements though, don't give up on it. it's probably just a preferences setting in the wrong place.
