Emi 2/6 and Live. Only one Stereo Output??
Emi 2/6 and Live. Only one Stereo Output??
Hi,
I'm running Live on a powerbook G4 (maOS 10.2.6) with an Emagic 2/6 (2 in, 6 out) . I'm not able to select more than 1 stereo output. It's very important that i can send my signals to multiple outputs for the use on stage (in a full band). Is it possible, if yes, why doesn't it work??
tx!

I think Live's master output is restricted to two channels (L+R) regardless of what platform you're using.
You may need to use a proper sequencer if you need more control over output buses.
Another alternative would be to run two or more instances of Live, each with seperate output preferences. You would probably need two or more laptops for this since the output preferences are tied to the laptop.
Better perhaps to use a real sequencer...

make sure your interface is setup
Not sure if this helps, but make sure you have your EMI setup correctly via
/Applications/Utilities/Audio Midi Setup
/Applications/Utilities/Audio Midi Setup

Only the first pair is visible unless you configure the 2/6 to 6 outputs in the sound & midi setup app.

Hi jerom,
the thing with the 6 channels of the EMI is a little bit tricky.
Like nyquist already mentioned you have to setup the EMI in the Audio MIDI Setup.
1) start .../Applications/Utilities/Audio Midi Setup
2) Select the EMI in the second list box ("Selected Audio Device") on the left side.
3) Now, on the right side in the "Output Section" is another listbox "Current format". In this box you just have to select something like "6Ch-44100.0 Hz 16bit".
4) Quit Audio MIDI setup
5) From now you should be able to access 6 channels within Live
regards,
Alex

hey Alex,
been doing the first gigs with my new live-setup with ableton as master. 80% happy with it...some probs still not solved:
I did find out about the Audio/midi configuration and I changed it...BUT:
for some reason my computer always changes the audiodevice back to the built in Audio device..in the beginning I thought it was because I unhooked the USB from my laptop (after it was shut down) but it even changes when I close Live and without restarting opening live again. Logic 6.1 for some reason can find all audio outputs (even if I didn't configure my audio-midi setup first).
This means now that I have to go on stage 5 minutes before the rest of the band (I don't trust our roadies with this, no offence guys...
) just to make sure the configuration didn't change. Sometimes I have to restart to find back the devices. I downloaded the latest Mac OsX, the latest EMIdrivers and live 2.1, but it still didn't change a thing...so I'm a little stuck now...
tx for your replies anyway...got some other probs but gonna post them in an other topic...

same here, i'm also using live 2 in a live band setup and yes indeed, every time i hook up the emi i have to go into audio midi setup to select the 6 channel output.
this is clearly not an ableton live issue - apparently the emi defaults to 2 stereo outputs at 44,1 khz when you hook it up, since i also don't have 6 outputs available in logic unless i change this in audio-midi settings first.
sort of annoying but nothing to call my lawyer about :) - as long as you remember to change it before you start playing, otherwise you can end up having the drummer's click track playing over the pa...
