Post by BENBLEASE » Fri Nov 11, 2005 1:54 pm

I created this monster just usin the downloaded wavs and live 5.

Managed to do some cool stuff like turn his bass guitar into a synth usin simpler, and turn his acoustic kit into an analog one usin pitch evelopes and redux! And there's Plenty o' choppy choppy if ya catch ma drift!

Check it on http://www.myspace.com/buzzab

Cheers!

Well its more interesting to listen to than the original. I just don't like the song period. I'm not a fan of the stair-stepping vocal effect, but everything else was enjoyable. This remix had some Fixed qualities to it, which is why I say its more interesting than the original track. Personally, I think the first two and the last four songs off of "With Teeth" are the real songs from that album, the others inbetween are crap(IMHO)

trent reznor is such a pussy.

since industrial / electronic music became so accessible he has turned to a more 'live band' sound so as to put space between himself and the rest of electronic music. sadly , its not enough to make oneself better than the competition. a pretentious , novelty , angst ridden cash crop sell out piece of shit.

and im a fan.

Awesome remix! I really like the tune anyway, so I love to hear mixes of it. Good use of effects and keeping things "in the mix". Keep it up and post more if you got em!

Yeah, your remix beats the piss out of most of the other remixes that are out there.
Good show chap.

Much more interesting than the original. I think trent reznor put theses tracks out so that they could be remixed more universallly. He is too great to put out such bland crap without intending them to have space in them for remixing.

It is the current trend in big music to release boring formulaic well balanced hooky fluff with the intention that it will get more play because it easy to mix with.

Nice remix. Someone's been taking their tips and tricks vitamins.

Let's hear some more, eh?

Love this!! Only just got the live 5.2 demo and am amazed by what you can do!

How do you do the reverse reverb etc in the 1 bar breaks and hows the gated guitar done n time with your track?

Sorry for the questions but am very new to this!.. Just need an Ableton tutor

Thanks Buckman!

Live makes it really easy to do the reverse reverb trick, you just record the reverb'd track back into a new audio track using the i/o routing (though don't think it lets you in the demo). Then apply reverse to that sample and line it up, making sure to chop off the 'dry' signal at the end.

The gated guitars are not gated, its all envelopes. i stuttered the guitar into the rhythm i wanted using the sample offset envelope, then just drew in a volume envelope to get the gaps!

The thing i love most, is i wouldn't even have thought of this stuff, never mind attempted it if live didn't make it so damn easy (+ fun)!

Being a cubase user for four years, i can't say making music was ever truly fun before live. hats off to ableton for letting me enjoy that thing i forgot called MUSIC!

Wow thanks Benblease!

Does sound really polished and mastered well too..

I'm still having probs just getting my samples and loops to warp!?!

I scanned and analyzed my audio drive which all has perfect cut 2 and 4 bar loops but still when i look at the Warp markers and Warp & Loop, they still loop wrong and out of time, in the arrange window (they drift out of line)

I used Acid for years and made loads of records on it, could get stuff finished within 2 hours etc, and Live 5 seems even better! but can't get round this...

Am downloading and printing off the Manual, but as its 370 odd pages, which bit best explains what i need to do?

I used acid for years too - it's a wonder I can get out of bed in the morning let alone make a record so don't worry too much.

thanks again buckman!

as for your loops, if they're cut well, then live should just get it right straight away. I've never had that problem ever, its got everything I've thrown at it so far.

Are they in acid format or something weird?

Is your Ableton a propper version?

Ableton is the demo from the site 5.02 so should be fine!

The loops are just well cut wav files from soundforge, and even when i tried them on my pc with the live demo they were the same - all out of time?! So its nothing to do with my mac readin the wav's properly..

help! 8O
