Pulling my hair out, need help

Post by djmaniac » Sun Jul 27, 2003 4:33 am

 I just recently bought Live for editing purposes. I'm really having a hard time figuring stuff out, I read the manual, is it me or is the manual totaly useless! I'm using Live as a multi-track recorder, everytime I record a new track I have to switch to the other view click from master to send and then send to master just to hear what I just recorded, every time!! What am i doing wrong? And if I screw up and try it over why does it save every take in the sounds folder? I'm going insane, I'm hoping someone has the answers for me cause I'm ready to throw this program out the window!

RTFM. no it is actually helpful. Sounds like you want to work in the arranger view. Route your audio in, turn on the track activation, monitoring, and record arm for your track. listen, record. repeat. Live is the simplest, most intuitive, and easy to use audio software out there. If your having this much trouble with it, definitely don't try pro toos. cubase, etc. and RTFM

:( It didn't help though, I do arm it and it records fine. What I would like to do is listen to it immediately after recording just by hitting play. But instead I have to switch from arranger mode to session mode, and change the output channel from master to send only and back to master to hear anything. and that's everytime I record something. I have to be doing something wrong I just don't know what, do you know what it might be?

:D I downloaded 2.1 and the problem seems to be fixed, I can now instantly play back what I just recorded. Now, can you add effects to clips without affecting the rest of the track? Also I can't figure out how to assign certain functions to my keyboard keys. Hope that's not too much to ask!

Thanks in advance,
djmaniac

Hi djmaniac,
can you add effects to clips without affecting the rest of the track
This is not yet possible. As workaround some people di is to add effects into an empty track, make the settings there (or switch off in your case) and move the effects from there into a "playing" track.

how to assign certain functions to my keyboard keys
You can assign keyboards keys to buttons,switches,... Press the "Key Map Mode Switch" (in the right corner of the transport, left of the "MIDI" button) and then you can assign keys.

Alex
