Midi CC Passthrough

Post by Nod » Tue Nov 15, 2005 3:24 pm

Got a bit of weird one here....

My main controller keyboard, an old AN1x, was set up with a preset for each of my fave softsynths. Each of it's 8 knobs and the ribbon controller were programmed for cutoff, resonance, ADSR etc and in Live 4.14 it worked absolutely perfectly.

Now in 5.02 I'm finding that none of these MIDI cc's are passing directly through to the softsynths without first having to to hit the MIDI Map button and then reassign all the controllers, thru the interface, in order for the cc's to have any effect. I know that Live is recieving the cc's in the first place as the MIDI activity LED is flashing away quite happily.

Any ideas?

Live 5.02, P4 2.6C, 512MB DDR 400, Audiophile 24/96 PCI.

You've only got to reassign them once. The MIDI mapping will be saved with that set.

If you want to use them repeatedly, just set up a template with your mappings already done.

Cheers for the reply Hambone but that is a ton of extra work for something that:

a) worked in a previous version of the program
b) works in pretty much every other sequencing app

The idea of reprogramming controllers for every single song or alternatively setting up a template with 60 odd synths and their mappings doesn't really appeal when it should work 'out of the box' so to speak.

If anyone out there, with 4.14 & 5.02, wants to confirm this then try downloading the excellent MinimogueVA from http://home.no/gunnare/
set your controller to output cc74 (cutoff) and load it up in both versions. In 4.14 it immediately controls the filter whereas on 5.02 the cc isn't passed straight thru to the synth.

Supposing this isn't a bug (on my sys anyway) and it is intentional then I'll make a feature request for custom midi mappings that can be saved along with VSTi's as setting this up everytime is the antithesis of, er, Live.

I can't believe no one else has noticed this (also leads me to believe that it might just be my set up however) when using softsynths....4.14 passes all cc's straight to the synths - instant control of all parameters 5.02 will pass certain 'standard' cc's, volume for example, but any others you have to set up with every song.

This is progress? C'mon guys please tell me it's just a bug in my set up but I've tested this with a bunch of synths....:?:
